Abstract

Propionska kislina se pogosto uporablja v kemijski, biokemijski in farmacevtski industriji kot topilo, reagent, dezinfekcijsko sredstvo, konzervirno sredstvo s protibakterijskim in šibkim fungicidnim delovanjem, natrijeve, kalcijeve in kalijeve soli propionske kisline pa so poznane kot varni (zeleni) dodatki hrani. Zelena tehnologija proizvodnje je fermentacija sladkorjev ob prisotnosti bakterije Propiopnibacterium in ekstrakcija iz vodne raztopine s primernim topilom. Izbira topila temelji na faznem ravnotežju tekoče-tekoče. Kot topilo smo izbrali 2-oktanon in preučili sistem voda + propionska kislina + 2-oktanon. Pri T = 298,15 K in atmosferskem tlaku smo za ravnotežje tekoče-tekoče v sistemu določili krivuljo ternarne vzajemne topnosti (binodalo) in sestave veznih črt. Termodinamsko skladnost eksperimentalnih veznih črt smo potrdili z Othmer-Tobiasovo korelacijo in Handovo korelacijo. V dvofaznem področju smo ovrednotili koeficiente porazdelitve propionske kisline (D2), koeficiente porazdelitve vode (D1), faktorje separacije (S) in selektivnosti. Na osnovi dobljenih rezultatov lahko zaključimo, da je 2-oktanon primerno topilo za separacijo propionske kisline iz razredčenih vodnih raztopin (fermentacijske brozge).

Secondary abstract: Propionic acid has many applications in chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical industries as solvent, reagent, disinfectant, preservative agent with antibacterial and weak fungicidal effects, since sodium, calcium and potassium salts of propionic acid are known as safe (green) food additives. Green production technology is fermentation of sugars in the presence of bacteria Propiopnibacterium and extraction from aqueous solution with a suitable solvent. Choice of solvent is based on phase equilibrium. 2-octanone was choosed as the solvent in the mixture system of water + propionic acid + 2-octanone. Liquid – liquid equilibrium data of the solubility (binodal) curve and tie-line end composition were examined for mixture at T = 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The realibility of the experimental tie-line data was confirmed by using the Othmer-Tobias correlation and also Hand correlation. Distribution coefficients of propionic acid (D2), distribution coefficients of water (D1), separation factors (S) and selectivity diagram were evaluated for immiscibility region. From these data it has been concluded that the 2-octanone is suitable separating agent for propionic acid from dilute aqueous solutions (fermentation broth).
