Abstract

Secondary abstract: |
Transsexuals are a kind of sexual minority, about which is mostly not enough known, as a lot of population still believe this is major and pervert deviation from »normal«, regardless of its meaning. According to different experts the transsexualism is a sexual identity disorder or means personal tendencies to be a person of a different gender, therefore they usually describe their feelings as uncomfortable situation or feeling of a person of the »wrong« gender. The transsexualism means that the person (surgically) changes their biological sex. The term includes also the conditions in which individuals hope for sex reassignment, but this hasn't been done (yet), as well as conditions when individuals feel only certain disorder between biological sex and social presentation.
In the field of the transsexualism there are several significant characteristics and issues in modern society. Legal recognition of the new gender of an transsexual individual is one of the most significant issues of the transsexualism and other issues in the area of the sexual differences. This includes also the name modification in public documents and sex reassignment in registries. Different countries around the world differently deal with these and similar legal issues, with legal practice showing that there are several questions that need to be addressed. There are also significant differences regarding accepting and recognition individuals whose sexual characteristics are altered in European Union.
Some important issues need to be addressed, regarding the prohibition and preventing the discrimination against transsexual people. This includes the discrimination against biological sex as well as a social presentation of a new gender. In Slovenia the sex discrimination or discrimination on the grounds of other personal circumstances is banned, as well as in majority of states, but in practice it is proven otherwise. Individuals that undergone sex reassignment are often discriminated at work, in society etc. show the researches. |
