Abstract

Z vrstično elektronsko mikroskopijo smo določili morfologijo monolitnih materialov in s tem potrdili njihovo poroznost. Z infrardečo spektroskopijo smo preverili kemijsko strukturo monolitov. Monolitom smo izmerili povratni tlak s pomočjo HPLC črpalke.

Secondary abstract: Porous polymer materials, which are made from emulsions that have high ratio of internal phase, are called polyHIPE materials. PolyHIPE materials are highly porous (up to 99 %), because of their open cell structure. These materials can be applied to different areas, where large surface is needed, according to low mass of material, in filters or different filtrations, molecular separations, synthesis or as bearers in catalysis. Materials are very useful in tissue engineering too. The subject of my work was the preparation of bicontinuous porous polymers, on the basis on poly-styrene and poly-N-isopropylacrylamide. Monomers were present in both, continuous and the droplet phase. In organic phase styrene was the monomer, which was cross-linked with divinylbenzene. Together they formed a hydrofobic skeleton. Open structure was filled with hydrophilic poly-NIPAAm gel, which had been cross-linked with MBA. Bicontinuous porous polymers were tested with the solution flow through the monolitic material. Due to the fact that poly-NIPAAm is temperature responsive material, it responded to the temperature change of solution. The response was swelling and de-swelling of material which effected the solution flow and pressure in the column. With scanning electron microscope we determined the morphology of monolitic materials and confirmed their porosity. Further, the structure of monoliths was checked with an infrared spectroscopy and their back pressure measured with HPLC pump.
