Abstract

Secondary title: Tuberculosis and the role of the nurse in the treatment of patients with tuberculosis
Secondary abstract: Tuberculosis is a disease which generally affects the lungs and, at the same time, is one of the most frequent infectious diseases in the world. The aim of this thesis was to determine how nurses prevent infection transmission and also how they follow the instructions for giving medical treatment. The research is based on quantitative methodology. The survey was conducted in the University Medical Centre Maribor on the Department of Pulmonary Diseases. Thirty employees were included in the survey. The results of the research indicate that more than ¾ of medical workers are well informed about the symptoms, ways of giving medicines and the control over the medical treatment of patients with tuberculosis. More than ¾ of employees are aware of the importance of personal and patients’ protection against transmission of an infection. However, all of the medical workers are aware of the importance of patients’ health care education during the hospitalization and their understanding of the disease. We believe that medical workers are well aware of their own protection and of patients’. Although, medical workers should also be aware of current innovations on tuberculosis.
