validacija vprašalnika za starše
Abstract

Theory of mind in early childhood |

The aim of the present master's thesis was to verify psychometric characteristics (reliability, construct and concurrent validity) of Slovene version of Theory of mind inventory which was translated and adapted to the Slovenian population. Theory of mind inventory is a new measure that goes beyond the limitations of traditional measures of theory of mind and is gaining recognition in the international field. Theory of mind is defined as the ability to attribute mental states to self and others and to predict and understand people's behavior on the basis of their mental states. Parent-reports on a sample of 279 preschool children showed that the Slovene version of the questionnaire has construct validity and high reliability comparable to those found in the English version. In general, the results of factor analysis supported three-factor solution (early, basic and advanced subscale) proposed by the authors. However, some of the items in the subscales did not load as expected, so we proposed some changes in the translation. The study also supported one-factor solution. Both one-factor and three-factor solutions have proven to be psychometrically adequate, but based on the use in previous studies, we recommend using one-factor solution for typically developing children, while three-factor solution is found to be useful especially in specific population of children (autism spectrum disorder). Theory of mind inventory demonstrated statistically significant positive correlation with Theory of mind task battery. In the study correlations with some demographic variables are also presented. Research showed that theory of mind can be reliably and validly measured with parent reports and that the Theory of mind inventory is a suitable measure of theory of mind for Slovene population. |
