Abstract

Secondary title: Nurses´ perceptions of palliative care
Secondary abstract: Background: Palliative care is afforded to a patient with an illness which brings with disturbing symptoms. The aim is to maintain and improve the quality of life of the patient and family. It is so important to implement palliative early in treatment. Research methodology: We used a cross-sectional descriptive study. The survey included 440 nurses in a clinical environment in Slovenia and Finland that have a first, second or third degree. Data were analyzed with the help of Mann-Whitney U test. The results: We're set up to the three hypotheses. The first hypothesis, we have confirmed and find that there are statistically significant between both countries by the perception of palliative care (p = 0.002). The second hypothesis has not been confirmed and we have concluded that there are no substantial differences between both countries about the knowledge of palliative care (p = 0.477). The last hypothesis, we confirm that relates to the acceptability of palliative nursing care between both countries on the impact of further education (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Palliative care is an important component in the holistic treatment of a patient who suffers from illness with disturbing symptoms. For such an approach, it is important to educate nurses about palliative care.
