Abstract

Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: The risk of perineal injury is in connection with a vaginal delivery. Therefore, it is an important concern for the perineum in stage of pregnancy, in order to avoid the negative consequences of perineal injury, such as pain, incontinence, decreased activity etc.
Methods: A descriptive research methodology based on an analysis of the existing scientific literature, from the scope of the topic. Literature was obtained through databases: COBISS, Medline and Google Scholar.
Results: The review study showed that perineal massage with fingers, from the 35th week, reduces the incidence of birth injuries and pain in the perineum three months after childbirth. Massage is easy and well-taken by women. It should be a mother’s free will to choose such a birthing position, as dictated by her body. Midwives should encourage more such idea.
Discussion and conclusions: There are many techniques that help in taking care on the perineum during pregnancy and childbirth. They should be introduced in continuous practice in nursing. Consequently, this would mean less perineal damage. Minimizing the incidence of birth injury and the positive experience of childbirth, should be the goal of all employees in the health care that are in contact with a woman in travail. |
