Abstract

Secondary title: Uncertainty about the release and postpenal treatment for convict women
Secondary abstract: Postpenal treatment is, as of yet, a poorly researched concept in Slovenia. It deals with aiding and supporting convicts during their sentence and after their release from prison. This entails assis-tance in arranging accommodation, finding employment, psychological counselling for the convict as well as support for his family. Using qualitative research, I intend to explore how the postpenal treatment process takes place in practice. The research relates exclusively to the female population, since, in my opinion, it is even more overlooked than the male. The first part of my diploma consists of a general data about the women serving their sentence in Ig prison, the current theoretical and legal standing and implementation of postpenal treatment. In the second part, I use practical examples to show how the postpenal treatment process takes place in the only female prison in Slovenia, from the point of view of the interviewees. My study shows some important deficiencies that can lead to more difficult integration of persons after their release. According to the pre-release convicts interviewed, factors such as the support of family members and self-activity in the process itself, i.e. the independent search for infor-mation about housing and employment, are the ones that strongly influence successful integration into society. In the conclusion, I propose improvements and upgrades to the postpenal treatment process.
