Abstract

Causes of optically bleached cotton knitwear yellowing |
Secondary abstract: |
The main purpose of the research was to determine the parameters responsible for the yellowing of optically bleached cotton knitwear. The stains on knitwear that had been previously factory-bleached and made were investigated by IR and UV/VIS spectroscopy. Another porpose was to monitor the formation of yellow stains under the influence of various parameters: light, weather conditions, lubricating oil, perchloroethylene and packing materials. The change of the degree of whiteness was monitored spectrophotometrically. It was found that the formation of yellow stains on factory bleached materials might be attributed to lubricating oil or its degradation products. During laboratory simulation of the stain formation performed for seven months (under different parameters) no characteristic yellow stains appeared, however, the degree of whiteness lowered. Lubricating oil under the effect of light had the greatest influence on the change of the degree of whiteness among all analyzed parameters. |
