Secondary title: | Photographic narcissism on social networks and in art |
Secondary abstract: | The main subject of this paper is photographic narcissism in art and on social networks. Through addressing the different ways in which photography is used in self-portrayal in art, my objective is to try to understand the prodigious practise of self-portrayal in social media. The research project assesses the emotional and functional significance of photography, with particular focus on in the human relationship with the medium of photography and its extended application within social networks. Obsessive self-portrayal in art as well as photographic narcissism as a social phenomenon is addressed, as are the reasons why individuals massively expose themselves through self-portrayal through photographs – selfies in the social media. From this derives an investigation as to where the desire to reveal their intimacy in front of an internet audience originates. |
