Vprašanje kakovosti "nestrokovnega prevajanja" na primeru ljubiteljskih podnapisov poljudnoznanstvenih serij

Abstract

Ljubiteljsko podnaslavljanje se v marsičem razlikuje od dela, ki ga opravljajo profesionalni prevajalci in pod podnaslavljalci. Potek dela, čas, ki ga lahko vložijo v delo, ne nazadnje tudi zakonitost njihovega dela - vse to lahko vpliva na končni izdelek. Če pa v enačbo vključimo še poljudoznanstvene serije, zapletene stroke in njihova besedišča, lahko zgodba postane izjemno zapletena tako za ljubiteljskega podnaslavljalca kot za gledalce, saj če podnaslavljalec ni dobro podkovan glede vsebine svojega dela, lahko prihaja do napak, ki bodo prinesle več slabega kot dobrega. Namen tega dela je pogledati, če je res tako. Na podlagi izbranih poljudnoznanstvenih serij Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking, Human Planet in Earth: The Power of the Planet cilj naloge ni le kritizirati napake, ampak jih komentirati na način, ki bi lahko koristil ljubiteljskim podnaslavljalcem, ki bodo brali to delo.

Secondary abstract:	Fansubbing differs from the professional subtitling in many ways. Motivation, time limits and legality inevitably affect the final result. The situation is even more complex in case of documentaries which include scientific terminology. If a fansubber does not have enough knowledge about the content, he/she can make mistakes that would bring more harm than good to the viewers. The purpose of this thesis is to confirm whether that is true. The material we used was from documentary series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking, Human Planet, and Earth: The Power of the Planet, hence the goal of this thesis is not to criticize mistakes and inaccuracies but rather to comment on them. We hope that the results presented in the thesis may help the future fansubbers.
