diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študija Organizacija in management poslovnih in delovnih sistemov
Abstract

Organization of shift and night work and their impact on the health of the worker |
Secondary abstract: |
Today's society is becoming more modern and a number of services are available 24 hours a day. Although just a few services used to be provided in the past, such as health care, fire and rescue service, etc., nowadays it is self-evident that various services are available at any time or day, whether it be entertainment, food or industry, which often applies shift work. As a result, the biorhythm of their employees is often inevitably out of balance due to workload.
A changed working rhythm has a relatively big impact on human well-being. Working in shifts day and night can cause different illnesses, consequences of which may manifest as mental health issues of individuals.
In the theoretical part, we presented working time, its contributory factors and the consequences of shift and night work. However, in the research part, we examined how shift work is organised in Slovenian companies and which health implications the employees working in shifts or at night face.
We conducted a qualitative survey using a survey questionnaire completed by 60 people employed in the tourist sector.
The results showed that older employees working in shifts have a higher incidence of health problems than their younger counterparts who also work in shifts. We found that employees sleep less after their night shift than after their day shift, but there are no noticeable differences in health problems between employees who work for several consecutive night shifts and employees who work in shifts. In general, shift work causes stress to the employees, but night shift is no more stressful as morning or day shift as assumed in the hypothesis |
