Abstract

Secondary title: Studying insurance fraud with the collaboration of Zavarovalnica Triglav d. d.
Secondary abstract: Insurance fraud represents a topical issue nowadays that threatens the insurance companies as well as our entire society. The problem faced by the insurance companies is the public’s false notion that insurance fraud is not a crime. Most of the people experience insurance fraud as acceptable because they believe that nothing is wrong with using fraud for the retrieval of money that was invested in the insurance company via a payment of insurance premiums. Most insurance fraud occurs with car insurance, namely 70 percent. Cooperation with other insurance companies, the police, the prosecution, the courts, detectives and with the Slovenian insurance association helps the insurance company Zavarovalnica Triglav d. d. with successful investigations of insurance fraud. Despite the cooperation and the use of different software tools that search for suspicious cases with the help of indicators it is necessary to emphasize that a grey area still exists, which means that several insurance frauds still stays undetected. Zavarovalnica Triglav d. d. opposes the fraudsters by also raising the public’s awareness on insurance fraud and the damages it causes. This is how they want to change the opinion of the public about the acceptance of insurance fraud as morally contentious. The challenge that remains for the future represents the fight against fraudsters, who are always a step ahead of the investigators. With the help of modern technology, the fraudsters are successfully swindling the insurance companies and so consequently increasing the premiums of honest policyholders.
