iPTF discovery of a young type Ia supernova

iPTF16auf

Abstract

We report the detection of a young supernova, designated as iPTF16auf, at RA=14:31:09.26 and Dec=+27:14:09.8 (J2000), in the vicinity of the star forming galaxy MRK 685 at spectroscopic redshift 0.015.
