Abstract

Secondary title: Analysing the characteristics of language as a compex dynamic system on the example of Slovenian texts
Secondary abstract: In master's thesis we have focused on an area which is still quite unexplored in our space - that is the dynamics and the complexity of the systems. We have decided to discuss the language from a statistical point of view. The intention of the study was to determine whether in Slovenian texts the representation of words according to their frequency is followed by potentially decreasing functions, and how the complexity of the texts changes through different educational period. By analyzing the Slovenian texts we have researched the frequency of words according to their occurrence in the text and the frequency of the occurrence of words according to their rank and length. Special attention was also given to literary characters and their interlacing in the text. By using the Python programming language and the programs OriginPro 8.5 and Gephi we have analyzed how these texts are similar to texts suitable for a particular educational period in the above mentioned features. Furthermore, we have highlighted the differences and the similarities of texts during the educational periods. We have ascertained that the texts within one age group for a certain educational period are very similar. On the basis of the obtained results, we have found out that there are significant differences in the structure of texts among the age groups. In master's thesis we have presented a tool which could in the future provide teachers with a simpler and more effective determination of literary texts suitable for reading in a particular age group.
