Abstract

Secondary title: Usage of plant material for different procedures in reconstruction of baroque gardens in Slovenia
Secondary abstract: When renovating historical gardens in Slovenia we often confront lack of historic sources (written and grafic) as much as abandonment and destruction of a place. Restoration of monuments in this condition is not possible anymore, that is why we renovate with partial reconstruction (as much as possible) and recreation. To reach level of authenticity as high as possible, we try to get as closer to original as possible with all mental and physical attributes. The thesis is looking for an answer to how can be material (plants) replaceable so that we still reach high level of authenticity in renovation. I analysed characteristics of original planting in baroque gardens in Slovenia and comapred them to plants which were not in use in time of baroque but they become important in present garden design because of low costs of sapling and maintenance. I found out that we can use some of them instead of original plant species under assumption that plant species were only used to reach a certain conceptual goal and message. I made a case study on a greatest baroque park in Slovenia – Dornava. I made three different planting plans which show different approaches in renovation.
