Abstract

Secondary title: Comparison of Synchro and Vistro software when analysing the performance of traffic demands in the case of intersections along Tržaška Street in Ljubljana
Secondary abstract: An important factor in planning new traffic infrastructure is the intersection, where heavy traffic often causes congestion due to the intertwining and interruption of traffic flow. When designing such areas there are numerous criteria that can be met to ensure proper functionality and permeability of such intersections. The criterion for permeability and waiting times can be determined on the basis of capacity analysis of the intersections in question, which can be carried out using various software tools. As part of the Masters' thesis we analysed the capacity of four road junctions along Tržaška Street in Ljubljana using two globally recognised analytical programs, and, on the basis of the obtained efficiency measures, we also produced a comparative analysis to determine the efficiency and suitability for using the selected software tools. The theoretical part of the Masters' thesis describes in greater detail the different software tools for carrying out traffic studies and the analytical methods HCM 2000 and ICU 2003, which represent the basis for determining efficiency measures when using analytical software tools. The main part of the Masters' thesis describes the production of traffic models of the area concerned, while we also analysed in greater detail the similarities, differences, deficiencies and limitations of both software programs used. The traffic models used represented the basis for applying the capacitance analysis, with which we obtained data on the average delays, the achieved level of services and the length of traffic jams, which we further analysed in detail and in this way, determined the suitability of using the chosen analytical software tools. The final section of the project is given to analysing the efficiency of line coordination along Tržaška Street, where we then optimised the existing traffic light control programs at junctions and thus, without any additional construction measures, succeeded in improving the existing traffic conditions in the given area.
