Abstract

Dejavnost smo izvedli z najstarejšimi otroki (5-6 let) v vrtcu. Otroke smo najprej seznanili z zgodbo in nato z izdelanima matematičnima igrama.

Secondary title: Math board games based on children's literature
Secondary abstract: The thesis titled Mathematical board games developed on the basis of children's literature aims to prove that mathematical board games can be created on the basis of any type of children's literature. The thesis, which is based on the idea presented by the article titled Developing Math Games Based on Children's Literature, consists of three parts: theoretical, empirical and practical. The theoretical part presents how mathematics is taught in kindergarten, the role of the pre-school teacher in mathematical activities, and various mathematical games. We have also described the book titled The Gruffalo and the method of developing two board games based on the chosen book. For the practical part of the thesis, we tested the homemade mathematical games with children. The activity was performed in a kindergarten with the eldest children (aged 5 to 6). The children first learned about the story and were then presented with the developed mathematical games. We also built the so-called Gruffalo's Nook, where the children were able to play in the following days. The empirical part of the thesis uses various graphs to present the results of the evaluation of introducing two mathematical games based on children's literature in kindergarten. The results have shown that children recognised the connection between the games and the story; that their understanding of the rules and gameplay of the game titled The Gruffalo's Long Way was better in comparison to the game titled The Hazelnut Trail, but they enjoyed playing the last one more than the first one.
