Abstract

Secondary title: Attachment to cats by preschool children
Secondary abstract: The theme of the diploma thesis is attachment to cats in preschool children. The purpose was to determine the impact that cats as pets have on behaviour and well-being of preschool children and the extent to which children attach themselves to cats. Through survey questionnaires and research we obtained the answers to questions: whether the attachment of preschool children to cats is reflected in the expression of safety, safe starting point and safe haven; whether there are differences in attachment to cats according to the gender of the child; whether there are differences in attachment to cats according to the age of the child. We used a survey questionnaire for parents, which included demographic data and an evaluation scale that measures expression of various aspects of safe attachment. We found that a pattern of attachment safety, found between the child and the parent, also occurs in the relationship between the child and the cat, and that there are no significant differences in attachment to cats according to the gender and age of the child.
