med patriotizmom in jugonostalgijo

Abstract

Magistrsko delo obravnava notranje ovire formiranja samostojne in neodvisne slovenske države.

Secondary abstract: This master's thesis deals with the internal obstructions to the formation of the independent Slovenian state. In the 1980s, the European Communist states were subjected to national and cultural awakenings, which triggered multifaceted repression from the single-party regimes. The half-a-century long violation of basic human rights in Slovenia escalated with the publishing of the 57th issue of the Nova revija journal, which is considered the advent of the Slovenian Spring. The journal faced closure threats from not only the Yugoslav federal authorities, but also the republic one. Neither those of the former nor the latter succeeded in stopping the democratization of the Slovenian state and society. In the desire for political survival, a number of Slovenian communists publicly transformed into democrats, and in the post-independence period they still enjoy a considerable reputation. The communist ideology did not cease to exist with the Slovenian independence, but was only wounded. In the last few years, the ideology has managed a tremendous recovery, as evidenced by its increasing presence in many public service structures. The contemporary Slovenian society is very confused, of conflicting nature and split into two parts - those who grieve for the five-pointed Red Star, and those for whom the said star is a symbol of totalitarianism, pain, suffering, and straitened circumstances.
