Abstract
Raziskovalne metode: V zaključnem delu smo uporabili kvalitativno metodologijo raziskovanja. Podatke smo zbrali s pomočjo delno strukturiranih intervjujev.
Medicinske sestre morajo poznati simptome obolenja, faze obolenja ter vrste obolenja.

Nurses experiences in communicating with dementia patients |
Secondary abstract: |
Introduction: Dementia is a syndrome of chronic or progressive nature that affects the decision-making ability, memory and thinking. People with dementia are: distrustful, scared, they have problems with speech and understanding. When establishing a relationship with such patients, it is important that we approach calmly, kindly, we speak briefly and clearly.
Methods: In the final part we used the qualitative research methodology. Data were collected through partially structured interviews. We interviewed six nurses with different levels of education with at least two years of working experience in working with patients with dementia. The research data were processed by the method of the thematic analysis.
Results: We obtained two thematic strands: Communication with people suffering from dementia and providing quality health care. The research has shown that the experience of nurses communicating with people with dementia is different. The received data indicate that the communication is most influenced by the mode and the factors of communication, non-verbal communication, well-being, organization of work and successfully overcoming communication obstacles.
Discussion and conclusion: Communication is important, as with it we obtain information about the feelings, needs and desires. To ensure quality communication, it is important to know communication techniques, factors, obstacles and non-verbal communication. People with dementia need to be guided, as they are not able to take care of themselves at the advanced stage. Nurses need to know the symptoms, the stage and the type of the disease. |
