Abstract

Secondary title: Two years of monitoring of plant and selected invertebrate species on translocated grasslands in Gruškovje, NE Slovenia
Secondary abstract: The aim of our research was to assess the success rate of a meadow translocation, carried out as a compensatory measure during the construction of a highway route in Gruškovje, Slovenia. We measured the success rate by comparing plant and invertebrate species composition between the remaining unchanged meadow (taken as a reference) and the translocated meadow. We compared those using factors such as number of species, diversity indices and ordination analysis. We conclude that the transfer was a successful one. There were no significant differences between the reference and the translocated meadows in terms of number of species or species diveristy indices. The only major difference between the reference and the translocated community was apparent in the sampling we did in 2016, where we found the translocated community to have higher species diversity. We found that the similarity between the meadows decreased through the years, which was also confirmed by ordination analysis. This is in line with the results from the scientific literature. The limitation of our research was the absence of measuring abiotic conditions as well as insufficient sampling of invertebrates.
