Secondary abstract: | Preoperative radiochemotherapy followed by TME surgery has gained acceptance in multimodality treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer. The potential benefits of this treatment must be balanced against the risk of increased morbidity when determining the appropriate treatment for individual patients. Effects of combined modality treatment on rectal, voiding and sexual function are quantified by various scoring methods. Speaking a common language in reporting the results is warranted. High rate of rectal and urogenital complications has prompted us to incorporate this information in the preoperative counseling |
