Abstract

Secondary title: Human rights - is the universal declaration of human rights truly the beginning of awareness or the invention of human rights?
Secondary abstract: The Charter of the United Nations and The Universal Declaration of Human Rights from 1948 symbolically asserted human rights in international law, and the end of this year will mark the Declaration’s 70th anniversary. During this time, the international community has applied the Declaration and developed a wide selection of international norms and standards in the field of human and fundamental rights. The Universal Declaration was the first one in history to emphasise the protection of human rights as the global responsibility of every individual. It also strengthened the universality of human rights and was referenced in other significant international human rights instruments.
