Abstract

ǂThe ǂuse of MOTI mobile application for evaluating stand parameters on the Lešje private forest property |
Secondary abstract: |
The study examined the usefulness of the application MOTI for the estimation of stand parameters at the Lešje private forest property covering 26.14 ha of forest. The time consumption was compared between measurements with the MOTI application and the classical Bitterlich method, and the number of measurements required for a reliable estimation of stand parameters was estimated. Stand parameters were measured on 160 plots (40 x 40 m grid) using the mobile application MOTI. The classical measurements of stand basal area were done on 50 randomly selected plots. On another 50 randomly selected plots, the diameter at breast height of all trees above the measurement threshold of 10 cm was measured in order to estimate the diameter distribution of forest stands. The comparison of stand parameters between the MOTI and the classical Bitterlich method showed that most values were significantly different, except for the average values of stand volume and the shares of silver fir and Norway spruce. The sampling errors for stand basal area and stand volume amounted to 4.9% and 5.5%. It was ascertained that the measurements using the MOTI application were more time consuming than the measurements using the classical method. The application MOTI is, however, a useful tool for private forest owners and forestry practitioners since it enables a relatively fast and reliable assessment of stand characteristics on forest property or in stands in general and since it immediately shows the evaluated values of stand parameters. |
