Abstract

During the active period of the Uranium mine Žirovski vrh the ongoing operation produced 600,000 tons of mill tailing, which was deposited on top of a fossil landslide. Due to intense precipitation in the fall of 1990 the landslide reactivated and displaced 7 million tons of material along with a significant portion of the mill-tailing Boršt. For that reason the groundwater level within the mill tailing and the underlying bedrock has since been intensively monitored. The purpose of my thesis is to provide an in-depth analysis of the groundwater distribution in the mill tailing Boršt; explorative research will be based upon both spatial and temporal components. Therefore, I will firstly examine the fluctuation of groundwater levels within the individual observation wells. The aforementioned examination will serve as a basis for the construction of groundwater level maps. As available information about mill-tailing Boršt in the existing academic and professional discussion is limited, this body of work will expand the understanding of the hydrogeological conditions in the investigated area, produce relevant additional data and open possibilities for further investigation.
