Abstract

Konvencijo o otrokovih pravicah (KOP) je sprejela Generalna skupščina Združenih narodov. Veljati je začela 2. septembra 1990. KOP poziva vlade, naj otroke obravnavajo resno in spodbujanju njihovih pravic namenijo ustrezno pozornost v zakonih in usmeritvah, proračunskih odločitvah in vsakodnevnih dejavnostih na vseh upravnih ravneh.

Secondary title: Abolishing traditional customs that hurt children - Uganda
Secondary abstract: The Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) was adopted by the United Nations on 2. September 1990. The governments who have ratified UNCRC are required to take child rights seriously by ensuring that their laws, as well as their budget allocations of their governing bodies, align with the protocols introduced by the Convention. Maintaining the child's right to freedom from all forms of physical or mental violence is crucial, as this is a widespread issue that endangers all their rights. The basis of this thesis is to expose traditional habits that harm children. These habits include female genital mutilation, their sexual abuse, and honor killing. An important breakthrough was made in the recent years in protecting the children from violence. The number of countries adopting policies regarding the prevention and abolition of violence, along with legal protection from all forms of violence, is noticeably growing.
