Secondary title: | Paradigmatic crisis of suicidology in Slovenia: discursive analysis of handbook Spregovorimo o samomoru med mladimi and Resolucija o nacionalnem programu duševnega zdravja 2018 -2028 |
Secondary abstract: | The master thesis explores the paradigmatic crisis of suicidology and how its symptoms show up in Slovenian work on suicide research. Suicidology is a multidisciplinary scientific domain responsible for the study of suicides. The aim of the suicidology is to acquire knowledge of suicide and the implementation of knowledge in suicide prevention programmes. A growing number of suicidologists points to the ontological, epistemilogical and methodological problems of mainstream suicidology. The master thesis defines suicidology as a social practice, which exposes the main social implications of suicidology. Researchers observe that modern suicidological reasearch of suicides is based on quantitative methodologies that frames suicide as a individual mental disorder. Critical suicidology stands for more contextual understanding of suicidal and more qualitative research. By using the discursive methodology we will investigate what kind of discourse is used in Slovenia in the field of suicide research. The analysis of the handbook »Spregovorimo o samomoru med mladimi« and the »Resolucija o nacionalnem programu duševnega zdravja 2018-2028« showed that in Slovenian suicidological resarch we can also identify the symptoms of the paradigmatic crisis of suicidology. Suicide is perceived as a pathological condition and prevention is directed at the individual. |
