Abstract

Secondary abstract: Metro 2033 is a novel by Russian novelist Dmitry Glukhovsky and it is a work of post-apocalyptic fiction. At the beginning of this thesis, we present the post-apocalyptic genre, which is a subgenre of science fiction. At the beginning, the characteristics of the post-apocalyptic genre and its short history are presented, and a special emphasis is placed on the tradition of post-apocalyptic literature in Russia. The novel also features elements of literary dystopia, which is why the next part of the thesis covers the overview, the development, and the main characteristics of dystopian literature. A special emphasis on the history of dystopia in Russian literature is included in this part as well. In the final part of the thesis, we try to prove that the novel includes elements of post-apocalyptic and dystopian literature based on certain elements like time and space of the story, the main character, and society within the world of the novel. Several excerpts from the novel that support our hypothesis are included in the thesis.
