Abstract

Glavni cilj diplomske naloge se nahaja v predstavitvi viktorijanske družbe s svojimi bistvenimi značilnosti. Osredotočila se bo predvsem na samo družbo, zgodovino obdobja, politično dogajanje in najbolj popularne ideje tistega časa, ki so uspele oblikovati mentaliteto glavnih akterjev viktorijanskega sveta. Pri preučevanju teh tem se bomo omejili predvsem na tiste stvari, ki jih je Charles Dickens vključil v svoj opus. Da bi se približali boljši predstavi viktorijanske družbe, bomo skušali družbo obravnavati skozi Dickensova dela in hkrati upoštevali njegova mnenja in kritike na samo dogajanje tistega časa. Za nas je pomembna tudi Dickensova življenjska pot, kjer bomo lahko spremljali kako je prišel v stik s tistimi motivi, ki se tako pogosto pojavijo v njegovih romanih in so ga spodbudili, da ljudi ozavešča o temnejši plati prestolnice angleškega imperija.

Secondary abstract: The main goal of this thesis lies in the presentation of victorian society and it's main characteristics. Above all it will focus on the society itself, it's history, political events of the period and it's most popular ideas, wich managed to shape, some way or another, victorian society as a whole. We will be specially interested in those aspects within this topics, which appear in the works of Charles Dickens. With the help of Dickens' novels, comments and critics regarthing his own era, we will try to reach a better perspective of victorian society. For this reason we will also take a look at the life of Charles Dickens, specially at those moments, where he came across the very themes which he ended up using in his novels and which encouraged him to tell his reading public about the dark side of London.
