Abstract

Secondary title: Influence of social networks on spreading of intolerance
Secondary abstract: With constant development of internet and social networks, the problem of intolerance on social networks is getting more and more widespread. We dare to say, there is no one that hasn't yet seen intolerance on the internet. With each passing day the thesis theme seems more relevant, since the whole world is dealing with refugee and migration problems, which is a subject that offers very different opinions, which, on the internet, usually leads to uncivilized debates. The purpose of thesis is to check the influence of social networks on spreading of intolerance. We presented the concept of intolerance and its influence on society, and especially focused on racism, which is very frequent on social networks. We also checked intolerance between adolescents, because they are the leading users of social networks. Furthermore we presented social networks and their beginnings, and also checked if they are filled with intolerance and racism and how they emerge. We wondered what is the role of social network moderators and what do they do to prevent intolerance and what more could they do. We also created and online survey, with which we asked social network users about their opinion on intolerance on social networks. Intolerance, discrimination and racism are very widespread on social networks. The line that separates free speech from hate speech is blurred and that is something that social network moderators are using to their advantage, because they don't do enough in their fight against intolerance. There is a need to give the problem more attention, because only with awareness about the effects of intolerance, we can hope to once have an internet, where discussion is based on tolerance and acceptance.
