Abstract

Raziskava je podala podatke, s katerimi smo ugotavljali razlike v vedenju, odnosu in praksi v zvezi z zaščito pred soncem; primerjali smo starše, katerih otroci so sodelovali v programu Varno s soncem, in starše, katerih otroci še nikdar niso sodelovali v omenjenem programu. Metode dela: V raziskavo smo povabili starše z dveh določenih osnovnih šol, katerih otroci so v istem šolskem letu obiskovali 7., 8. in 9. razred.

Secondary title: Evaluating the effectiveness of a prevention program 'Safe with the sun'
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Awareness of a possible negative environmental impact on human health has led to numerous prevention programs that try to prevent or reduce this harmful impact. Both elsewhere and in Slovenia there are a number of prevention programs related to public health, but it is still unknown how effective or successful they actually are. Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate the effectiveness of one of the prevention programs active in the field of public health and to test one of the methods. The research included the prevention program Safe with the sun (originally titled Varno s soncem) which is carried out by the National Institute of Public Health in kindergartens and primary schools throughout Slovenia. The survey provided data for identifying differences in behavior, attitudes, and practice related to sun protection; we compared parents whose children participated in the program Safe with the sun with parents whose children never participated in the program. Methods: We invited parents from two selected primary schools whose children attended 7th, 8th, and 9th grade in the same school year to participate in the survey. The first selected elementary school has been involved in the program Safe with the sun for many years, while the other –– was never a part of the Safe with the sun program, nor were the surrounding kindergartens. The survey was based on a questionnaire which was provided to the target group (parents) in a physical form through their children. Results: Results of the research have shown higher values and higher averages among the parents whose children attended the primary school participating in the Safe with the sun program as compared to the parents whose children never participated in the program. Nonetheless, the statistical tests show that there are no statistically significant differences between the two groups of parents. Discussion and conclusion: According to the results above we can conclude that the proportions and averages may be coincidental, but in any case we can not claim that the program Safe with the Sun is or isn’t truly effective.
