Abstract

Vse bolj razširjena medijska pokritost športnih dogodkov opravlja dve izmed osrednjih funkcij medijev, informiranje in zabavo.

Secondary title: Sports terminology in television sports broadcast Olimpijski park (2018)
Secondary abstract: The increasingly widespread media coverage of sports events is performed by two of the central media functions, information and entertainment. Today the Olympic Games are almost as much a media event, as they are sports event. When reporting on sporting events, it is important that the reporters know both their own profession and professional terms of sports that they represent to viewers, listeners or readers. Professional expressions, also known as terminology, are key part of every science or profession. However there is a problematic lack of relevant dictionaries and other manuals that would help users choose the correct professional terminology. In its journalistic field, the "toy department" does not enjoy high status, and sports reporting is often criticized for professional term incompatibility or jargonism. Sports itself and consequently also sports reporters are blamed for unqualified acceptance of terms from foreign languages, but these criticisms are largely secular and without proper language justification. The aim of this master's thesis is to check the eligibility of these critics in practice, specifically in television sports broadcast Olimpijski park (2018). The sample includes contributions on hockey, alpine skiing, ski jumping and biathlon in all twelve broadcasts during the Olympic Games. The analysis is dedicated primarily to the use of terms, jargonisms and actualisation.
