magistrsko delo
Abstract
Del obale Velenjskega jezera so spremenili v t. i. V ta namen želijo v prihodnosti realizirati tri projekte, s katerimi bodo izboljšali kakovost preživljanja prostega časa in vplivali na privlačnost destinacije. Ob Velenjskem jezeru bo v prihodnosti stal prireditveni prostor z velikim odrom, ki bo namenjen številnim športnim, glasbenim, kulturnim in drugim zabavnim dogodkom.

Development of tourism around the Velenje lake |
Secondary abstract: |
In the master's thesis we presented a geographical overview of the Velenje basin while mainly focusing on the Velenje lake. In the past, the development of the region was driven by the coal mining and power production industries, reaching peak of development in the second half of the 20th century. It is worth mentioning that in 1986, a record-breaking 5.1 million tonnes of charcoal were mined. This would not have been possible without the construction of the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant, which to this day remains a trade mark of the Velenje basin. Intense coal mining resulted in numerous environmental consequences. The region slowly started to sink and water began accumulating in the lower sections of subsided parts. The process eventually created the so-called depression lakes of which the Velenje lake is the biggest and most recognisable. In the past, the region surrounding the Velenje lake was considered to be prominently degraded, yet recultivation has managed to transform it into a popular tourist destination. A section of the Velenje lake shore was transformed into the so-called Velenje beach, where visitors can participate in numerous activities, both on and off water, and the hiking path around the lake is extremely popular. Every year, the number of visitors in the City Municipality of Velenje increases which can largely be attributed to the development of tourism around the city, and can also impact its infrastructural facilities and stimulate development of other economic fields and industries in the region. For this purpose, they wish to complete three projects which will improve the quality of leisure time and increase attractiveness of the destination. In the future, the area by the Velenje lake will see an addition of an event area involving a big stage, which will be used for various sports, musical, cultural and other types of entertainment events. By planning to assemble floating hotel facilities on the lake's surface they also want to establish stacionary toursim in Velenje. With this type of development trends, the Velenje lake should very soon be placed among the top most visited tourist destinations in Slovenia. |
