magistrsko delo
Abstract
V magistrskem delu smo raziskali pojav diskriminacije otrok priseljencev v razredu. Diskriminatorno vedenje oz. stereotipe in predsodke učenci prevzamejo iz svojega vsakdanjega okolja.

Classroom discrimination against immigrant children |
Secondary abstract: |
In my master thesis I conducted research on classroom discrimination against immigrant children. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and an empirical one. In the theoretical part some terms are defined which immigrant children can encounter at school as well as in wider community. The basis fundamental part of my research interest is unequal treatment without an eligible reason which means why are some people treated worse than the others and is this the case due to some personal characteristics (gender, age, race, ethnic identity, handicap, sexual orientation, religion) or any other reasons. Furthermore, we will specify the term "discrimination" - we were interested in reasons for the existence of this phenomena and in variety of forms it takes. We also tried to find out who immigrants are and what the characteristics of the Slovenian immigration policy are. With literature we examined the processes of immigrant inclusion in the Slovenian educational system. It was also of our interest which fields of education undergo discrimination, who is discriminated, how discrimination is detected, whether the awareness of it is raised and whether there are any prevention methods against it. In the empirical part of the thesis the descriptive method as well as causal non-experimental method of empirical pedagogical research have been used. We inquired what the most frequent form of discrimination is and also what are the reasons for it, how often it occurs as well as what the role of gender is. We were also interested in the general students' opinion on immigrants and in possible reasons for discrimination. The results have been interpreted on the level of description and model explanation which is based on empirical verification of dependent relationships among the phenomena. Our research is based on the generalist teacher sample working at schools in Maribor and its surroundings and is therefore focused on the observations of the people working with children. The results show that discrimination does occur in classrooms and is predominantly based on nationality or racial origin. It is mostly related to females, e. g. girls. Discriminatory behaviour is in rise with the students' age and we could relate it to fear of immigrants which is generally felt among older students. The results show that the students are mostly influenced by their parents, the media and their peers. Discriminatory behaviour or prejudice and stereotypes originate in the students' immediate environment. |
