Abstract

Secondary title: Analysis of weekly precipitation cycles for selected precipitation gauges in Slovenia
Secondary abstract: Does it really rain more often on weekends than during the week? This assumption is made by scientists who explore interaction between the occurrence of precipitation and air pollution. In graduation thesis we made a research of weekly cycles of precipitation for 13 meteorological stations in Slovenia, following researches that were made so far abroad. We used a variety of statistical tests and tried to determine whether the results for Slovenia are comparable to the results of other researches. Research demonstrate interesting results, which are similar to the results of other researches, namely analysis showed noticeable differences in the weekly precipitation distribution. The number of rainy days is indeed higher on weekdays that during the working days at some stations, but the differences are mostly not statistically significant. Precipitation stations Ljubljana-Bežigrad, Portorož-Airport, Velenje and Trbovlje stand out above all. At the same time, we found out that the concentration of the solid particles in the air is increasing from Monday to Friday and then dropping to Sunday at the majority of the considered stations, which is in accordance with the basic hypothesis on the relationship between the occurrence of precipitation and air pollution.
