magistrsko delo
Abstract

Peer Violence in Secondary Schools in Gorenjska Region |
Secondary abstract: |
The Master's thesis presents the survey on the extent of peer violence in secondary schools in Gorenjska region. We have addressed six survey questions which are the basis of our work. The thesis consists of the theoretical and empirical parts. The first part includes the introduction, the definition of peer violence, its manifestation, people involved in peer violence, school's influence on the occurrence of peer violence, the role of the police in prevention of peer violence and finally, the surveys from Slovenia and abroad. The second part is composed of a description of the sample and questionnaire, the empirical part and the results obtained by means of statistical analyses. The analyses included 127 students from different vocational and technical secondary schools and grammar schools in the area of Gorenjska, who took part in and completed the survey voluntarily.
The results of the survey show us an interesting, yet alarming picture of the extent of peer violence on the sunny side of the Alps. Increasing violence among young people has been reported around the whole world. According to the latest research, every third teenager is harassed or bullied. Our research has shown that even every second student in secondary school (55.1%) in Gorenjska region is the victim of peer violence. At this point we need to ask ourselves what we can do to decrease youth violence in the future. The possibilities range from stricter rules, closer contact with parents, and individual work with problematic teenagers to raising young people’s awareness of violence and ways of confronting it. It is a challenge for all people involved in the educational system to choose the right approach. However, it is the responsibility of school staff as well as us, future policemen and criminal investigators, to ensure a safe environment where young people could develop and grow to become healthy adults. |
