diplomsko delo visokošolskega študijskega programa Informacijska varnost
Abstract

Fighting digital piracy in music industry |
Secondary abstract: |
It is a fact that music is in one way or another part of our everyday life. Internet and with it the migration of music into a music cloud can therefore lead to the usage of pirate copies. Undoubtedly, the activity or passivity of law enforcement greatly contribute to and enable such streaming of music. Such conclusions have encouraged us to explore the factors of influence in the use of pirated copies in music industry. Considering that the research in Slovene language in the area of understanding and using pirated copies in music industry is particularly scarce, we have conducted a survey among the individuals interested in the studied subject and individuals who are embedded in the music industry itself (N = 84). We had distributed the survey questionnaire via Facebook and enabled each participant to forward the survey. Based on the results, we confirmed all six of our hypotheses. We concluded that those who are better acquainted with copyrights are more likely to purchase musical products. Respondents who buy musical products more often than others are more aware of the consequences of using pirated copies for the music industry. We also concluded that respondents who frequently stream illegal music from the internet are less likely to buy a music product in a physical form. We found that pirated copies are practically accessible to anyone who has the access to the Internet in Slovenia. The findings of this thesis are important for the decision makers who will shape the fate of musical products in the digital form. It is a topic that will need more attention in the future both from a professional as well as from scientific point of view. |
