Abstract

Secondary title: Design of automated rack type storage system for storing and dispatching steel profiles
Secondary abstract: The steel production company under consideration works mainly on the European market for the automotive industry. Their production program consists of heavy steel profiles of three shapes, different lengths and diameters. By adding various elements to the alloy, the company produces products of different qualities. The production enables to produce of large quantities of steel profiles, which are currently floor stored in a stacking frame. The assortment of this size requires complex logistics material flow to prevent bottlenecks. Based on the information collected through the study of the company we introduced the idea of transition from floor storage to automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS), which would increase storage capacity, improve the storage efficiency, traceability of the material and reduce operating costs. This paper presents the analysis of the existing situation and the procedures for the design of an automated rack type storage system for the storage of heavy products, to save the necessary storage space and time in handling the material. Such savings have a positive impact on the performance of each company and improve competitiveness on the market.
