Abstract

Secondary abstract: Human trafficking isa serious crime and a big violation of human rights. This phenomenon is spreading and developing fast dueto human needs, greed, globalisation, need for cheap labour and lack of opportunities for a dignified, safe and free life, bad social and economic status and corruption. In my opinion a few of the main reasons why human trafficing is spreading and developing so fast is an increasing gap between rich and poor countries, globalization, wars and a great demand for cheap labour and products. We are witnessing patterns of migration from Africa, the Middle East, countries of the Southeast Europe, former Russian Republics, South America and Asia. In order to achieve their dream of better and safer future, people are migrating to the European Union countries with all possible sources. A lot of questions come to my mind in connection with their journey towards a better life: who are they, what happens with the immigrants when they come to a destination country, what chances do they have at integrating themselves into society, can their vulnerability make them a victim of human trafficking, are the state authorities and non-governmental organizations in destination countries capable of recognizing or identifying them as victims of human trafficking and,of course, are all these organizations capable of assuring and offering the victims appropriate help.
