diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študijskega programa Varstvoslovje
Abstract
V diplomskem delu predstavljamo spolno nasilje v olimpijskih borilnih veščinah, in sicer: v boksu, judu, rokoborbi in taekwondoju.

Sexual violence in Olympic martial arts |
Secondary abstract: |
Sexual violence occurs within all social classes and everywhere in the world regardless of sex, race, religion, etc. With most people, sexual violence evokes feelings of displeasure and shame. It can be tough to admit that sexual abuse could happen to them or the people they know. According to information provided by the Slovenian Police (n. d. a) sexual abuse represents a large and murky share of crime. Victims rarely publicly expose themselves and report their abusers. This is mostly due to the fear of being shamed, stygmatised and cast out from society. Police statistics show that the perpetrators of sexual abuse are most frequently people that the victim knows well (Police, n. d. b). The abusers always has a certain power and dominance over the victim, which he or she tries to hold on to with in different ways (threats, extortion, etc.). Even though sexual violence remains a taboo in Slovenia, it can be recognized in all the individual’s spheres of activity, including sports. In this thesis, we research sexual violence in the Olympic martial arts, which are: boxing, judo, wrestling and taekwondo. In our research we discovered that in Slovenia, sexual violence is rarely present. Most often, the athletes are victims of verbal sexual harassment (comments on their physical appearance, personal questions about their sexual lives, unwanted remarks on sexual preference, etc.) and less commonly also physical sexual harassment (groping, undressing, hitting the intimate areas, forced sexual contact, etc.). Most athletes get along well with their trainers and trust them. Most often the perpetrators of abuse are other athletes in their clubs. Almost all respondents agree, that sexual violence should not be present in sports and would report it at once, nor would they suffer it for athletic achievements. |
