Abstract

Secondary abstract: Orthoses are polymer, leather or metal orthopedic aids that provide joint stability, passively strech soft tissue structures and reduce muscle tone. Ankle-foot orthosis is the most commonly prescribed kind of lower limb orthoses. Such orthoses are used for various lower limb impairments.Today's method of making an orthosis is quite long-lasting and time-consuming. With the help of modern technologies, the outdated way of making orthoses can be replaced with a better modern way. With 3D scanning, the shape and dimensions of the leg can be analyzed and the 3D model of the leg can be formed, but the question remains how to maintain the correct position of the leg while scanning the leg and not interfere with 3D scanning. The aim of this final theses is to design a holder that will fix the patient's leg during 3D scanning and allow the orthotic to position it in the correct position. Two concepts for making a holder are presented, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Although concept 2 has some advantages over concept 1, the lack of fixation of the heel in the neutral position outweighed its usability. However, with the theoretical background and conceptual orientation presented, the final theses can give the reader an upgrade of the idea of a holder that would allow the ankle and foot to be placed in a functional position, thus speeding up and improving the orthotic fabrication process itself.
