Abstract

Linija v umetnosti ponazarja gibanje, premikanje v prostoru. Zanima me tudi, kako ustvariti nek abstrakten, iluzionistični prostor in občutek gibanja z likovnima prvinama linijo in barvo.

Secondary title: Artistic transposing from painting to printmaking
Secondary abstract: The line in art illustrates movement in space. For each line, to be painted, drawn or stamped, has it's own character. In my diploma thesis I will be focusing on the expressive possibilities of an active line in the graphic technique of soft coating, also called vernis mou. In addition, I will also present one of the specific learning methods in art education; the method of transposing, which lets us experience and understand the visual problem, and helps us find a creative and unique solution (Tacol, 2003). In the beginning I will formally analyze two paintings made by Van Gogh. I am especially interested in his painting gestures, lines, colors, shapes, composition and color contrasts. Afterwards, I will transpose these analyzed art elements and relationships between them into my own graphics. I will also present graphic printmaking, deep printmaking, etching and the graphic technique of soft coating or vernis mou. I will describe the entire process from the sketch, the preparation of the matrix, the acid etching process, to printing and drying graphic prints. I am also interested how the lines I draw with pastels, while I am sketching, can remain as similar as possible, once they are transposed into graphic. That's why I chose the technique vernis mou, because it allows the lines to be extremely soft, sensual, almost as if drawn by chalk. Then, by using a comparative analysis, I will be able to tell what has been lost in the process of transformation from painting techniques into graphics, and what has been gained. I want to explore how to use another artist's work as a motive for my own art. I am also curious how to create an abstract, illusionistic space and a sense of movement only with lines and the help of colour.
