Abstract

Secondary title: Proposals for measures to improve road traffic safety of children in Republic of Slovenia
Secondary abstract: This paper presents the current level of road safety of children aged under 18 years and proposes measures for improvement. It describes how children develop the ability to safely participate in road traffic as well as what existing systems and projects contribute to better road safety. An analysis of road safety data between 2014 and 2018 shows a decrease in the number of road accidents involving children during that period. The majority of such cases are represented by accidents with children as car passengers, mostly suffering minor injuries. The analysis also points to non-compliance with priority rules and speeding as the most common causes of road accidents. Based on the results of the analysis, the paper outlines proposals on how to reduce the risk of road accidents, thereby improving the safety of children in road traffic.
