Abstract

Izvedeni so bili strukturirani intervjuji. Pridobljeni podatki so bili analizirani z metodo kvalitativne analize vsebine. Doživljale so ga zelo čustveno in intenzivno.

Secondary title: Women's experiences of home birth
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Home birth is as old as humanity. There are many reasons why women decide to give birth at home. Most women claim that in this way they can retain their autonomy and have the authority; they wish to give birth in their home environment. Women choose to give birth at home because of the positive preliminary information about childbirth, they know how to mentally and physically prepare for it, they have trust in their bodies and they know that they are capable of giving birth, and according to them, they feel like queens. Purpose: The purpose of the research is to determine the experiences women had with home birth in Slovenia and in Mexico. Methods: A causal-nonexperimental method of work was used. Structured interviews were conducted, using original questions. The questions were related to the time of pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. The target population were 8 women who gave birth at home. Out of them, there were 4 women from Slovenia and 4 women from Mexico. The obtained data was analysed using the method of qualitative analysis of the contents. Results: The reasons the women had for choosing home birth include the desire for natural and respected birth without interference in the process of childbirth, the desire for water birth and a bad previous experience of giving birth in the maternity hospital. All women describe home birth as a positive experience, although in some cases it was intense but very beautiful as well. Discussion and conclusion: We found that all women had a positive experience of giving birth at home in both Slovenia and Mexico. The experienced it as a very emotional and intense event. They felt like “birth goddesses”, they could connect with nature, move independently and only have the people they wanted beside them. However, it should be borne in mind that the number of women who want to give birth at home is growing and it needs to be discussed. We can achieve this by not treating home birth as dangerous, but offering women information about different choices of giving birth, so that they can easily make their own decision about where they decide to give birth.
