Abstract

Uvod: O neplodnosti oziroma infertilnosti ali nezmožnosti reprodukcije govorimo takrat, ko paru po letu dni rednih spolnih odnosov brez zaščite ne uspe spočeti otroka. Neplodnost prizadene 10–15 % parov v reproduktivnem obdobju. Literaturo smo pridobili s pomočjo pregleda podatkovnih baz CINAHL, MEDLINE in PubMed v angleškem in slovenskem jeziku.

Secondary title: Stigmatisation of infertility
Secondary abstract: Introduction: We talk about infertility or inability to reproduce, when a couple after a year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse fails to conceive a child. Infertility affects 10-15% of couples in the reproductive period. The cause of infertility is usually searched for in both partners, but often remains unknown. The response of experts can be quite different, and it has a significant impact on experiencing infertility. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to highlight the topic of infertility and the influence of society on the infertile couple. Special attention was paid to the supporting role of the nurse in treating the infertile couple. Methods of work: A descriptive method of work is used in the diploma, with a review of domestic and foreign literature on the selected topic. We obtained the literature through databases, such as: CINAHL, MEDLINE, PubMed databases in English and Slovene. Bibliographic resources were sought in the context of obtaining answers to the research questions posed by publication in the period 1999-2019. Results: 18 bibliographic units were included in the analysis. We have found that infertile couples are marked by different stigmas. As society expects a couple to have children, an infertile couple may feel worthless and useless. The society often thinks that the life of a couple without a child is boring, sad, uninteresting, causing an infertile couple much distress and pushing it to the edge of society. Health care staff, especially nurses, are expected to offer support and advice, guidance, and above all, their psychological support. Discussion and conclusion: In Slovenia and in other countries, many couples face infertility. They are under great pressure from the wider society and family, friends and other people they meet on a daily basis. Having a baby means taking into consideration the values and attitudes that the surroundings give to the couples, as they are intended to satisfy social needs in particular. The nurse plays an important role in the process of medical treatment of an infertile couple.
