Abstract

Secondary abstract: The bachelor's thesis titled Children, Parents, and Fairy-Tale Hours in the Library is composed of a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, we define libraries as a place for preschool children. We discuss the connection between the family and the library, we research the offer of biblioeducational activities of the library (with the emphasis on fairy-tale hours), we present the appropriate qualitative literature for children who attend to the fairy-tale hours, and explain the conceptions of family literacy and literary education. In the empirical part, I focused mostly on the parents of the children who go to the library and analyzed their answers through the survey questionnaire. I contacted the Josip Vošnjak Library in Slovenska Bistrica so that all the results are connected with the mentioned library. We ascertained that the parents and their children go to the libraries mostly to borrow the library material and not so much because of the biblioeducational activities the library offers. Fairy-tale hours are fairly well attended to with regards to the results. Parents realize the importance of the attendance at the fairy-tale hours but, perhaps, not because of the reasons we wished to hear about. In our bachelor's thesis, we present the significance of going to the library and fairy-tale hours for preschool children. We also present what opinion the parents have about the fairy-tale hours, what is the attendance of the fairy-tale hours in the Josip Vošnjak Library in Slovenska Bistrica, and in what way the parents, the librarians, and the library can cooperate.
