Abstract

Secondary title: Impacts of online support groups usage on patient’s adherence
Secondary abstract: Online support groups have recently become important for people who are seeking help. The diploma thesis therefore explores social support processes in online support groups and how they under the terms of different e-health literacy levels, impact patients’ adherence for mental health medications. We are focusing on two types of social support – emotional support and informational support. The data collected with a web survey in four different mental health online support groups, are presented in the empirical part of diploma thesis. Results have shown that better informational support received in online support groups, is related to lower levels of adherence. More positive attitude towards alternative medicine is also related to lower levels of adherence. Preceived better relationship with the physician is related to higher levels of adherence. Due to small sample size the results obtained are for information only and cannot be generalised to the population.
