Abstract

Secondary title: Recent guidelines and recommendations for returning to sport after the anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction
Secondary abstract: Introduction and purpose: Injury of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is one of the leading causes of absence from sporting activities. The risk of ACL reinjury is high, estimated at 20–30%. At present, there is lack of reliable data on safe return to sport after ACL injury based on objective clinical criteria (OCC). This thesis aims to produce recent guidelines and recommendations, based on systematic reviews of the literature. We expect to provide a reference model of safe return to sport that would help to minimize the risk of secondary ACL injury. Methods: Literature review. Inclusion criteria: (1) systematic literature reviews, focusing on OCC and risk of ACL reinjury, (2) ACL reconstruction, (3) studies published between 2011 and 2019 and (4) english language. Results: 7 relevant systematic literature reviews were assessed for further analysis. Usability: Implementation of proposed recommendations could positively influence on decreased incidence of secondary ACL injury and improve the late stage rehabilitation management. Limitations: Presented guidelines and recommendations are not final. There is need for further evaluation and better research methodology implementation.
