Abstract

Procedures of late rehabilitation after a partial tear of the plantar fascia |
Secondary abstract: |
The plantar fascia is one of the most important structures of the arch of foot. Due to overuse plantar fasciitis can occur. Plantar fasciitis is the precondition of a tear in the plantar fascia. It has been believed for a long time that the tear causes the arch of the foot to flatten, however, nowadays, it is well known that the restrainment of the other parts of the arch increases, but the arch itself does not change. It is crucial for a fast recovery that wholesome rehabilitation is considered, including rest and a successful collaboration of doctors, physiotherapists and a kinesiologist. We have designed a programme of late rehabilitation after an injury of the plantar fascia, and divided it into two parts. The programme includes elementary exercises of sports training; strength, flexibility, coordination and stamina exercises. The first part of the programme, lasting three weeks, includes exercises that avoid restraining the arch of the foot, since this could cause additional injuries. Besides regeneration, the first part focuses the most on stabilizing the foot and gaining strength. A part of the exercises take place in the pool, since the restrainment of the foot is lower in water. This helps with the exercises that could not be done with the entire body mass. The second part of the programme lasts 4 weeks. When it starts, the strength of the foot should be partly recovered, and hence we can focus more intensely on conditional training and add coordination, stamina and flexibility exercises. After the rehabilitation process finishes, the patient should be ready for a regular recreational workout or professional sports training. |
